Sample Student Documents

The following are sample documents the students have done with lessons and activities I have taught. Click on each image to view it in its entirety.

Mathematics

-Algebra, Function Tables & Function Machines

Here are some sample student work from a function tables/ function machine lesson I gave. This lesson was geared toward addressing Common Core State Standards. The students first recognized patterns in shapes, then charted the patterns to organize the numbers in the tables. They were slowly introduced to inputs and outputs with a function machine and eventually were creating their own functions with function machines which they switched with other students who completed the corresponding function tables.

I'll never forget how one of my students responded when I asked them what they noticed about the numbers and the pairs of numbers on the function table (before even introducing function machines). "I know.. (long pause).... OH!!! I GET IT!!! It's multiplied by 3!!!" Absolutely beautiful!

Science

-Food Chain

These are some student work samples from a lesson I taught on the topic: food chains. I had a PowerPoint presentation set up and had various activities set throughout the lesson, including a game of labeling the carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores, and identifying the predator and the prey. The samples are from an activity where they first put the food chain cards in the correct order and drew the energy flow, and later they labeled the producers, consumers, and the decomposers.

Language Arts
-Compare & Contrast

These are some sample works from a compare and contrast lesson I did during my student-teaching in a fourth grade class. I read the book Bigfoot Cinderrrrrella to the class then we did double-bubble thinking maps and filled-in sentence frames comparing the story to the Disney version of Cinderella.

I had done my Over the Rainbow lesson plan with a group of 15 students at the after school program, and one of the children drew this  picture to give to me. He said that it's me in his drawing. So sweet.
